About Nordic MTV

As a cable television station provider from 1998-2006, Nordic TV was a 24 hour English-speaking programming outreach for Nordic countries such as Sweden, Norway and Denmark, as well as other European areas. After combining these groups, the network was branded as MTV Europe and Nordic. Most of the vee-jays of that time span came from the three Nordic countries, but some were also from Israel and the United Kingdom. Discovering some of Nordic MTV's favorite programming can offer insight for understanding the station's viewing audience at that time and can also provide an invaluable resource of information and ideas from which others can learn.

Top five programming shows of Nordic MTV

Nordic Top 5 was the most popular Nordic MTV show and is even requested as a comeback today. The program aired the top five hits in Scandinavia. Next, as folks always want to stay in the know, News Weekend Edition was a second favorite followed by Hitlist UK. This, then top 40, chart list of music videos was hosted by different vee-jays such as Paul King and Simone Angel. European Top 20, the fourth favorite, was a countdown playing the top 20 European songs and artists. The fifth top program gave everyone the scoop from across the ocean on US top 20, a sort of American Idol type show.

As a cable television station for pan-European countries, Nordic MTV provided music video programming. As the station closed and other local stations developed, many of the shows of MTV Europe and Nordic retained their status as classic programs that are requested today by European and other world viewers. Remembering those shows, veejays and viewers can look through a window into the past that can affect the future of music video programming by learning from all of its experiences.
